The BBC arts and entertainment team includes The Lifeboat in its 2012 look-ahead. The Sunday Express highlights The Lifeboat as one of six debut titles for 2012. The Guardian calls The Lifeboat a “fantastic debut about survival at sea and on land.”  

Andrew Holgate of The Sunday Times includes The Lifeboat on his list of four “must-read” debut novels, saying it is “by some way the most gripping debut of 2012 I’ve read.”
